Research for the Documentary

I have decided to look through some documentaries on YouTube to see if I could find something that would be suitable for this project. I selected a couple, looked through them and thought about what kind of things from different videos may work for our documentary.

The first video I found was a documentary on AC/DC. I chose this one because I thought that it would useful to look at a video that focuses on bands and live performances. As we are working with the Junction and a lot of footage that will be used will be from the Fiver and the people connected with it talking. This video shows lives performances from AC/DC and the band talking in between and over the footage. I thought that this idea could work for our documentary, as we could use the Fiver footage, have bands, students and Junction staff talking in between or over the footage.
This video also uses quick cuts which I think would be suitable for the topic of the documentary and would fit well with the footage. It also uses the audio from the footage quietly under the interviews, which I think keeps the viewer interested and would be useful for us.

This next video really shows the educational side of documentary that we need to capture and get across. I have found a video which is actually about the Creative and Media Diploma and it shows interviews with educational practitioners and footage of all the students at work.
This video uses similar quick cuts to the AC/DC video and uses the audio of the footage under the interviews, which works well. I think that combining these two videos in our own way would work really well to get the educational side across, while working all the footage and audio to our advantage.

Research - Finding A Project

For this project I have had to find a person or company to work with who may need something creating or need help with a task. I have been researching on the internet and around Cambridge for people who may need us to produce something for them. We are looking for someone who would want us to make some kind of promotional video and who would need some kind of promotion.

I have researched a few place and this what I found and then decided to work with.

Addembrookes - have said that they wanted us to takes pictures for a poster to put in the hospital for promotional purposes. However, we have decided that we prefer to make a promotional video so this wasn't the right thing for us.

While researching I came along a place called the Mumford Theatre and I thought that as they work within the same style of business that I am interested in, that they may be interesting in working with us. This is probably not the best company for us to work with, if we had the choice, as I haven't really worked with theatre before and I think it would be too big a challenge for us.
However, if they were to ask us, they may want some kind of advertisement for one of their shows and maybe something promotional to encourage students to work with them(from Anglia Ruskin).

The Picture House was another possibility to use within this project. This was because they were looking for someone to make a promotional video for the 'Cambridge Film Festival'. I thought that this would have been a good opportunity but I have worked with the Picture House before and it didn't work out. Therefore, I have decided to not go with this company for the project.

I have also looked at the Junction for being a possible company to work with. Simon Bates, the head of learning at the Junction, has said that they need a promotional video for their event called the 'Fiver'. I think that we may be going with this place as it is more the type of thing that we were interested in.

I also thought that as I looked into the Picture House, that maybe other cinema's may have a similar interest. I thought that asking a cinema like Cineworld wouldn't be the best idea, as they are part of a bigger chain and are unlikely to think of us for a promotional or any kind of video. This is where Vue came in as a good idea, it is still a well known cinema but there aren't really many around so they may find it helpful for us to produce something for them.
Again, Vue is like other cinema's and is likely to want some kind of promotional video for possibly some kind of offer and so on.

I finally looked at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge, which in some ways I would assume it is like the Mumford Theatre but because it is more of venue for gigs and music more than theatre, they may be more interested in what we have to offer. They would possibly be interested in us making a promotional video to advertise an event they have, just like the Junction would possibly want us for the same thing.
